Fire Science & Fire Investigation Course 2026

Running for over 35 years, this internationally acclaimed four day course on fire scene investigation explores the scientific principles of fire behaviour for practical application.

The course is taught by academics from the University of Edinburgh specialising in fire dynamics and fire investigation, including Prof. Rory Hadden; professor of fire science, Dr Ricky Carvel; Senior Lecturer in Fire Dynamics, Prof. Luke Bisby; professor of Fire & Structures, and Visiting Professor Jim Lygate; formerly of IFIC Forensics and Jensen Hughes. The course also features contributions from professional fire investigators and consulting engineers.

The programme is designed to build on previous training for professionals such as Police & Fire Officers, Fire Safety & Security Consultants, Coroners & Procurators Fiscal, Forensic Scientists and Loss Adjusters.

Optional exam: Friday 24th April 2026

Cost: £1500 for the course, plus £350 for the optional exam

The optional exam is recognised by the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). A pass in this exam partly satisfies the academic criteria for Member grade applications to the IFE.
